Ruins of the Moorish Castle in Sintra, Portugal

According to archaeological research carried out in the area of Sintra, the first occupation of this site occurred between the 10th and 8th centuries BC.

Later, as early as the 8th century AD, when the Muslims invaded the Iberian Peninsula, they built the primitive fortification there, setting up a settlement there which they named "as-Shantara". The objective of this construction was to control in a strategic way all the terrestrial routes that connected Sintra to Lisbon, Mafra and Cascais.

Stay at the holiday villa Casa do Lago, to visit Sintra.

The excellence of Portugal was prized and world wide voted as the "2017, 2018 and 2019 Worlds Leading Destination", which reward has never been assigned before to an European Country.
